Condom makers say it's the world's best job, a "sexecutive position." An Australian company is seeking real life testers for its condom products.

"Got what it takes to be an official condom tester?" asks an advertisement launched by Durex Australia next to a photo of a busty young woman in a revealing nurse's outfit.

"With this job on your CV, it really will be a chance to brag to your mates about the special skills you possess, not to mention that your new role will work wonders with the opposite sex," Durex Marketing Manager Sam White told local media.

The "bed-testing" position is unpaid, but 200 selected testers would be up for free pack of Durex products, plus a bonus prize of A$1,000 ($854) for one lucky winner, White said.

In return, testers would have to report back on the feel and performance of the company's products.

Only Australians need apply, and would-be testers will be asked to explain why they should be considered. Humor would help in the application, Durex said.

"To apply, simply explain why you think you're right for the position (missionary is acceptable) and you could be eligible for the employee bonus of $1,000," said the ad on Web site www.durex.com.au.

Theo dự tính, công ty sẽ chọn ra khoảng 200 ứng viên sau vòng sơ khảo, sau đó sẽ phát miễn phí dùng thử cho mỗi người một hộp bao cao su - loại mới nhất vừa được sản xuất. Các ứng viên sẽ phải tường thuật lại “cảm giác” và “khả năng hoạt động” của sản phẩm. Người có bản “tường trình” hợp lý, chi tiết và ấn tượng nhất sẽ được tuyển vào công ty kèm theo giải thưởng trị giá 1.000 đô Úc.


Đối tượng nộp đơn chỉ hạn chế ở những công dân mang quốc tịch Australia. Ứng viên sẽ phải thuyết phục các nhà tuyển dụng vì sao họ xứng đáng nhận công việc này. Khiếu hài hước sẽ là một nhân tố được đánh giá cao, Durex tiết lộ.

Those superstitious types who freaked out last year when the calendar read 06/06/06 will have something to smile about on the 7th day of the 7th month, 2007.

Believing the triple appearance of the number 7 will bring luck, many people are planning important events for this first Saturday in July. Brides and grooms, especially, looking for a little extra dose of marital fortune, are flocking to the altar in droves on 07/07/07, according to wedding watchers.

If they only knew what the Chinese were thinking.

The number seven is considered lucky due to its frequent and favorable appearance in the Bible, say historians.

"As the number of the days of God's first week, of the levels of heaven...of the numbers of angels and trumpets, etc., the number came in the last few centuries BCE to represent divine perfection," said David Frankfurter, professor of religious studies and history at the University of New Hampshire. "Something organized seven-fold meant that it corresponded to God's own arrangement."

Numbers control our fate?

Just as some people wouldn't dare get married on a Friday the 13th or live in a house with the address 666, believing in the positive influence of the number seven is just another technique humans use to have some jurisdiction over the chaotic world around them, said Frankfurter.

“In our modern American society we have a tendency to look for magical ways to control the world or fate, so numerology is especially important for us,” Frankfurter said.

The obsession with numerology—and other para-sciences like astrology—tends to get stronger especially during significant life events like marriages, he added. "It represents Americans' rather weak (compared to Asian cultures') attempt to exert some numerical or calendrical control over important life-cycle, transition, or other crisis situations," Frankfurter told LiveScience.

Seven not lonely in luck

Trying to find meaning in numbers is a practice that goes back to ancient times, say historians, and doesn't begin and end with 6, 7 and 13.

There are many other numbers in the Bible that were thought to have sacred meanings, said Frankfurter, including twelve (for the tribes of Israel and the zodiac), five (books of Moses) and four (archangels, gospels).

Lucky numbers also vary from culture to culture, proving, skeptics say, that coincidental connections between an event and the influence of a number can always be found if you're looking hard enough, no matter what the digit.

Chinese culture, for example, associates "degrees" of luck according to how a number is pronounced. Eight, whose Chinese name rhymes with the words for prosperity and wealth, is considered particularly auspicious. The Beijing Olympics, as a result, will open next year at 8 p.m. on Aug. 8, 2008.

Oh, and many Chinese consider 7 a very unlucky number associated with death. Don’t tell the brides.

Còn nhớ ngày 06/06/06 năm ngoái, dân sùng đạo (phần lớn) ở châu Âu đã hoảng sợ đến rúm người trong cái ngày mang biểu tượng của Quỷ thì Thứ Bảy mùng Bảy tháng Bảy năm nay lại được coi là ngày mang đến sự may mắn tốt lành. Tuy nhiên, không tính người Trung Quốc.

Ở các quốc gia theo đạo Thiên chúa, 07/07/07 này là dịp “ngàn năm có một” để người ta tổ chức các sự kiện có ý nghĩa quan trọng với cả đời người, điển hình là việc cưới hỏi. Các nhà quan sát sự kiện xã hội cho hay, số lượng đăng ký cử hành hôn lễ tại các nhà thờ vào ngày thứ Bảy đặc biệt này tăng đột biến.



Theo giới sử học, số Bảy được coi là con số may mắn nhờ sự xuất hiện thường xuyên gắn liền với những sự kiện tốt lành trong Kinh Thánh.



“Đó là số ngày trong tuần lễ đầu tiên của Chúa, là số tầng địa đàng, số thiên thần mang kèn trumpet, là con số thể hiện sự đắc đạo” - David Frankfurter, giáo sư bộ môn sử học và tôn giáo tại trường ĐH New Hampshire cho biết.



“Ngoài ra, những sự việc xuất hiện trong 7 lần còn được coi là có bàn tay xếp đặt của Chúa”.



Theo tâm linh tín ngưỡng, những người không dám tổ chức những sự việc trọng đại vào Thứ Sáu ngày 13 hoặc sống trong ngôi nhà đánh số 666 thì lại đặc biệt tin vào may mắn mà con số Bảy có thể đem lại. Dù sao đó cũng chỉ là cách con người tự trấn an tâm lý trong hoàn cảnh thế giới quá hỗn độn như thế này - giáo sư Frankfurter khẳng định.



Trong xã hội hiện đại, chúng ta có xu hướng tìm kiếm những biện pháp thần kỳ để kiểm soát thế giới hoặc chiến thắng số phận, nhờ đó mà bộ môn khoa học thần bí như chiêm tinh, coi số... được trao một ý nghĩa ngày càng quan trọng trong đời sống.



Có khá nhiều con số trong Kinh Thánh được cho là có ý nghĩa linh thiêng, ví dụ như số 12 (số bộ tộc của người Israel và số cung hoàng đạo), số 5 (số cuốn sách của Moses), số 4 (số sách phúc âm, số thiên thần tối cao...).



Tuy nhiên quan niệm con số nào may mắn, con số nào xui rủi có sự “xê dịch” nhiều trong văn hóa từng quốc gia, ví dụ như ở Trung Quốc, người dân tin rằng mức độ may mắn mà con số đem lại được quyết định bởi cách phát âm.



Số 8 phát âm gần giống chữ “phát”, có nghĩa là phát đạt, thịnh vượng, được coi là con số đặc biệt hứa hẹn nhiều niềm vui. Cũng chính vì lẽ đó là Thế vận hội Bắc Kinh sẽ chính thức được khai mạc vào đúng 8 giờ sáng, ngày mùng 8 tháng 8 năm 2008.



Trong khi đó con số 7 bị “ghẻ lạnh” bởi người ta cho rằng nó có liên quan tới những điều bất hạnh, thậm chí chết chóc.
